Herts and Minds
Published December 2019
Herts and Minds is a collection of new fiction and non-fiction exploring the past, present and future of Hertfordshire.
“Writing starts with the known, so it’s no surprise that many of the pieces in this anthology are rooted firmly in our town and its surrounding area. Yet, once begun, these journeys take off in their own highly individual directions - poetry that leads you by the river, and through fields, and into hearts - stories that are historical, and modern, and futuristic. They illuminate, they educate - and they are so much fun!
Dear Reader, you are in for a rare diversion that will take you smiling and uplifted into the rest of the day. What more could anyone want?.”
Michael Dobbs, President, Hertford Writers' Circle.
Authors: Bryan Andrews, Hilary Austin,Ken Boyter, June Broom, Margaret Colville, Caroline Delattre, Susan Eggleton, Erin L. Johnson, Sarah King, Paul J. Long, Ceri May, David Midgley, Kate Miller, Charlotte Newbury, Daren Peary, Chris Phillips, Hilary Price Jones, Michael Richardson, Karen Skinner, Alicia Sledge

Heart of Herts
Published December 2016
Heart of Herts is a collection of new fiction and non-fiction exploring the past, present and future of Hertfordshire.
“Every tale in this Heart of Herts collection taps the deep roots that make this one of the most remarkable yet pleasant of places in the entire realm, and the fascination shines forth on every page. Here you will find stories stretching from plague to parental love, from alchemy to archaeology, and a host of alliterations in between. Sherlock Holmes' sister gets a look in, as do witches, space travellers, and rather more conventional commuters on the A414. This anthology is a treasury of imagination. Every one of these tales conjures up new images of Hertfordshire, not simply its folklore and fables but also its future, and while we encourage such talent, that future will be bright.”
Michael Dobbs, President, Hertford Writers' Circle.
Authors: Türkân Ahmet, Bryan Andrews, Ken Boyter, Susan Eggleton, Emma Herring, Janet Hindley, Erin Johnson, Kate Karko, T. P. Lee, David Midgley, Kate Miller, Elaine O’Connor, Hilary Price-Jones, Andrew Samuelson, Karen Skinner, Lawrence Stribling, Janet Syme, Caroline Werk.

Four Rivers & a Castle
Published December 2013
This anthology is based around any number of brightly coloured doors through which the reader can walk into worlds that will fire the imagination. These stories overflow with fresh insights and epic characters, and above all with ambition. Every one of them is based in Hertford and its surrounds. I thought I knew the town pretty well and had a good idea of what it might produce. I was wrong.
Now I'm not sure it's an undisputed fact that Jane Austen came here, let alone Vincent van Gogh, although Elizabeth I's and Oliver Cromwell's links are rather better established. What does it matter? These are works of the mind, travel documents to places as yet unknown. Between these covers you will find shaggy dog journeys, detective puzzles, love stories, lines that are poetic, some that are prophetic, tales about star ships and Zeppelins and train rides, and on every page just plain good writing.
Michael Dobbs, President, Hertford Writers' Circle.
Authors: Turkan Ahmet; Bryan Andrews; Ken Boyter; Paul Gitsham; Janet Hindley; Kate Miller; Christina Raven; Karen Skinner; Lawrence Stribling; Julie Tese; Erin Thompson; A J Tomkins; Rik Wilkinson; Vincent J S Wood.

The Pioneers by Rik Wilkinson.
Why did five young men move from London to Galloway in 1973 with little more than a van, some tools and some polyurethane sheets for shelter, intent on restoring Castle Stewart, a roofless and ruinous fortified tower?
Rik Wilkinson tells this fascinating, often hilarious but true story, in images, prose - and some fine poetry.
£6.39 (Please note different price to above books).
