Daren Peary
“Real poetry for real people” is what poet and actor Benjamin Zephaniah said about Hertford’s very own poet Daren Peary.
His collection of poems Lettermorphosis was published in 2016 and has had positive reviews and accolades.
Daren established the spoken word poetry event in Hertford called Tongue and Cheek and the events have proved to be very popular with local poets and performers. He continues to host this event and says there is definitely much more to come in 2022.
Daren has performed poetry and spoken word at many different events including Jawdance, Bang said the Gun, Standon Calling Festival, Hertford Music Festival, Hertford Literacy Festival, Ware Festival and Southern Maltings spoken word events.
He plans to publish more of his poems in the years to come and is currently working on publishing two children's story books for younger age groups, with the emphasis on encouraging reading and creative writing.
He has had poems published in the Hertford Writers’ Circle anthologies. Daren says: ‘I love all forms of writing and since being part of the Hertford Writers’ Circle, I feel I’ve gained a lot of confidence and expanded my experience by reading lots of different types of genres.
‘I get inspiration from day to day events and from observing the environment. I love art and music and my favourite poets are Michael Rosen, Benjamin Zephaniah and Hollie McNish.’
