David King
I’m a poet, blogger and editor. As with so many, my writing potential lay dormant for a long while inside a teaching career, in my case in Further and Adult Education. Later, while working as a private English tutor, I was approached by a marketing agency in the financial services sector to be their editor. Since then, much of my work has consisted of reviewing and editing a wide variety of communications for banks, building societies, insurance companies and fintechs. Quite a departure for somebody with a humanities background.
As a result of this I finally established King’s English, an idea which I’d been sitting on for several years. Broadly defined, King’s English is a writing advice service, or, when I’m feeling grandiloquent, a writing consultancy. I review and edit all sorts of texts for commercial and private clients to help them improve their message through more effective and appropriate language. It’s not all tech and mortgages though; I also enjoy helping people with autobiographical and reflective writing. King’s English has its own Facebook page and Twitter account, as follows:
Facebook: @kingsenglish2022
Twitter: @KingsEnglish3
Website: kingsenglishcopywriter.co.uk
You can also connect with me on LinkedIn.
The King’s English website kingsenglishcopywriter.co.uk is currently being reconfigured, but is still the platform for my blog, 100% Proof. This a personal and idiosyncratic sweep across a range of subjects, usually with a language or literature focus but extending also into related cultural and political areas.
So much for the ‘bread and butter’. King’s English aside, I am a poet. The first work I had published was in the 2010 National Poetry Anthology, and since then my work has appeared in Link, Ringing World, New Contexts and the online journal Line Breaks. I have recently joined Ware Poets, and am about to make myself indispensable as custodian of their pop-up bar.
In addition to the social media presences above, I can also be found on Twitter as King Davy 1 @davidjwking and Hereward the Woke @HerewardtheWok3
